Research check 13

#48c
The more dance classes and training you have undertaken, the more you would have harnessed your ability to remember dance routines.
-you also get used to the way your dance teachers and choreographers go about teaching movement. "practice makes perfect"

When it comes to professional dance routines you will be expected to know your stuff- note very choreographer will explain things which they expect you to know. Many times they will just teach the choreography.
-everything becomes different at a professional level. At this point in your dance life, you SHOULD be well rounded in every form of dance. It's also at this point that the choreographer will not care whether you get the choreographer behind. "dog eat dog". Generally, it's not the choreographer's job to teach you HOW to dance.

Whereas Ina dance class you may have an hour or so tolerant routine and get it right, at a professional level you may only have half an hour... Sometimes even less.
-it's usually only like this for auditions. The short amount of time is usually what happens to get things going faster because of the many people that may audition.

If you know we the choreographer is, you may find it helpful to watch some of their choreographer or videos beforehand so you can become familiar with thirsty leaned have some visuals idea of how they like their work to look.
- it's a good idea to get a sense of what you're going to be working with, what to expect, and what to look out for. It can also be the determining factor in auditioning or not.

as a professional dancer it's very important for you to be able to adapt to whatever the choreographer wants.
- it's a hard thing to do but professional dancers should be able to do it no problem because of the extensive training they've had throughout the years to teach them how to mimic the choreographer 100%.

Fnd out what the choreographer wans and give it to the to Mae their on easier!
- like I said before, at this level, it's not the choreographer's job to teach you how to dance. They should just teach you how to do lithe movement they created and BOOM it's over. It would also be great to get compliments from the choreographer to getting their good graces. If you're remembered, you get work.

Because all choreographers will have their own rules and ways of styling things, you will need to be flexible.
- this is a MUST MUST MUST for professional dancers xbecause if you're Flexible with different styles of dance, you will be noticed and hired. That is the main goal in this whole thing.

They may have different routines that look completely different in style from one another.
- for the end of the year pep rally in 2011, every single one of me hip hop, routines I choreographed we're completely different. They were all different kinds of songs, different tones, and different kind of choreography, but they were all choreographed by me.

Blog 10: Self Reflection

1. So far, I think my overall work in the project is equal to that of a CR. I know I haven't necessarily been on top of my assignments and almost all of my work has been late. I've lagged on both my interviews and was in danger of succumbing to the NC rules.

2. One thing I think I've done well on is keeping up with my independent component because my independent component is my dance elective and since the beginning of the year, I've been teaching choreography non stop.

3. I need to really improve on getting my science fair stuff in order because I still don't know what I'm even going to do for my experiment. Another thing is turning assignments in on time and doing things ahead of time to avoid complications like people not calling you back because this specific issue has been my main downfall throughout this senior project.

What I've Learned So Far

1. For the most part, I already knew everything in my research so far, but I was reminded about how you have to keep going over things in choreography depending on the dancers. Teaching the dance team "Thriller" was a bit of a reminder for me of how there will always be people at different dance levels, ranging from memory to actually being able to do the moves to the according counts. I hadn't taught anything to anyone since the end of the last school year and I got used to my old dance girls getting the choreography and counts a lot faster and a lot easier. Getting new girls this year/ semester was a reminder of how a choreographer has to keep reviewing things and executing things in different ways, due to the fact that things click differently in people's heads in different ways.

3. The source that helped me with this was my first interview with my old dance teacher, Rae-Ann Stinson. She said that one of the hardest parts of being a choreographer is having to go back and remind the dancers of things in the routine so that they get it right, in a way that they'll understand. For example, this video documented the very last rehearsal before the actual performance and there were still things that needed to be fixed. I actually danced out the correct ways of the parts that needed to be done so that the dancers understood. Dance is a very visual form of art, and you can't always verbalize what you're talking about when it comes to choreography.

Blog 1: Senior Project Topic

My topic is dance choreography because it's something I've worked with for a big portion of my life, having been in dance since I was 9 years old. Every dancer eventually grows into choreographing routines for themselves or other people and it ends up becoming a passion to most. That's exactly what has happened to me, being the captain of I-Poly's dance team.

What I hope to accomplish after studying this topic for the entire school year is to walk away a better choreographer because I do hope to one day become a dance teacher sometime in my future, and to better understand the life, philosophies, and work of actual choreographers. I also hope that as I research everything throughout the year, I can achieve my greatest potential as a choreographer for my dance team, in time for the end of the year pep rally.
